Audubon Sanctuary Foundation

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses is an award - winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.

Since 2006, the Copperleaf Golf Club has been a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Copperleaf meets required standards for protecting the environment, for preserving natural resources and for providing wildlife habitats. Our 18-hole, championship golf course is teeming with wildlife and punctuated by beautiful and environmentally friendly streams, lakes, and plant, shrub and woody areas.

The Golf Maintenance Operation team demonstrates its environmental commitment every day through activities such as cultivating native plant areas, monitoring water use, spot treating turf weeds, applying fertilizer at low rates, and installing numerous bird houses (see the screech owl house photo below) throughout the course. Copperleaf is proud to be environmentally conscious stewards of our community. Brian Beckner, who is a Naturalist with a focus on native bird boxes and habitat management, guiding members and staff around the golf course and its many lakes, pointing out the diversity and robustness of the horticulture and wildlife that also calls Copperleaf home.
